A wonderful train excursion experience! Tour participants will begin their journey onboard a privately chartered, TCA SPECIAL AMTRAK train from Pittsburgh to Altoona and have a first-hand experience riding the rails through the World Famous Horseshoe Curve.

After arriving in Altoona, tour participants will be able to visit the Railroaders Memorial Museum and the Horseshoe Curve visitor center and funicular.  The Railroaders Memorial museum is a short walk from the AMTRAK Station and buses will shuttle visitors to the Horseshoe Curve while others visit the Museum.  The Railroaders Memorial Museum is dedicated to revealing, interpreting, commemorating and celebrating the significant contributions of railroaders and their families to American life and industry in three floors of exhibits and a movie theatre.  The Altoona Pennsylvania Railroad’s contribution to the nation’s transportation infrastructure and to production standardization marks it as one of the most important contributors to America’s industrial revolution.  By the 1920s, the Altoona railroad works employed 15,000 workers, and by 1945 the Pennsylvania Railroad’s facilities at Altoona had become the world’s largest rail shop complex.

The World Famous Horseshoe Curve is one of the World’s most incredible engineering feats.  The Horseshoe Curve National Historic Landmark features a history of the Curve and a funicular that will take you “track side” so you can watch the trains travel around the Curve.
